I-CORE Research:

Energy-Rich Biomass

The role of my group is to develop robust strains of cyanobacteria and microalgae for biomass and biofuel production at elevated temperatures compared with common physiological conditions.

First year studies will focus on further improvement of biomass production and hydrogen generation by mesophilic cyanobacteria at elevated temperatures and high carbon dioxide conditions (A. Scherz, Nature, 2006, PlosOne, 2012). Later, similar manipulation will be carried out in microalgae and higher plants for providing more robust platforms for biofuel production.

Other Research Areas:

Cancer therapy by novel derivatives of bacteriochlorophyll and light. Current studies focus on both early and advanced stages of prostate, colon, breast and endoluminal cancers.
