I-CORE Research:

Energy-Rich Biomass

The role of my laboratory in the ICORE project will be to screen wheat biodiversity for sources of straw with improved composition for use as a feedstock for production of lingo-cellulosic ethanol.  Wheat straw is an abundant, cheap and underexploited resource. Genes involved in pathways controlling lignin, wax and silica contents will be studied by genetic and genomic methods.

Other Research Areas:

I work on the evolution of plant genomes.  This includes mechanisms of DNA repair, mutagenesis, recombination, transformation, as well as mechanisms of speciation via hybridization and polyploidization.
